PM Modi and PM Albanese Discuss India-Australia Relations and Quad Cooperation
New Delhi, India – On August 26, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with the Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese, to review the bilateral relations between India and Australia. They also discussed their cooperation in multilateral forums, including the Quad.

Earlier, on July 29, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with his Australian counterpart, Penny Wong, to discuss strengthening the bilateral ties between the two nations. Jaishankar mentioned that they talked about enhancing cooperation across the Indo-Pacific region.
Jaishankar posted on X, ‘A great start this morning meeting Australian FM Penny Wong in Tokyo. Spoke about further steps to intensify our bilateral ties including in security, trade, and education. Also discussed deepening our practical cooperation across the Indo-Pacific. Look forward to continuing this at the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting shortly.’

On the same day, Penny Wong announced that Australia is launching a new Cable Connectivity and Resilience Centre to support undersea cable networks in the Indo-Pacific. This initiative aims to ensure reliable connectivity and foster the growth of the digital economy in the region. Australia will invest over USD 18 million in the Centre over the next four years.
Wong stated, ‘We rely on a vast network of undersea cables, which carry over 95 per cent of international data traffic from emails to e-commerce, accessing news, social media, and streaming content.’
