Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

During their meeting, PM Modi and Anwar Ibrahim decided to elevate the relationship between India and Malaysia to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This means they will work closely together in many areas, including defence, security, and trade.

Defence and Security Cooperation

The two leaders agreed to strengthen their defence cooperation through regular exchanges, exercises, and capacity-building initiatives. They also plan to collaborate more in the defence industry and research and development.

Wide-Ranging Discussions

PM Modi and Anwar Ibrahim discussed various topics such as digital technologies, start-ups, healthcare, education, culture, tourism, and people-to-people relations. They witnessed the exchange of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in areas like Ayurveda, culture, arts, heritage, and more.

Science, Technology, and Climate Change

Both leaders agreed to advance collaboration in science and technology, including space, nuclear energy, and vaccines. They also committed to promoting sustainable energy and addressing climate change. Malaysia appreciated India’s efforts in establishing the International Solar Alliance and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure.

International Big Cat Alliance

India welcomed Malaysia’s decision to join the International Big Cat Alliance as a founding member. The two leaders encouraged the quick conclusion of negotiations on the Framework Agreement of the IBCA.

PM Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to India was his first to South Asia and marked the beginning of a stronger relationship between the two countries.
