PM Modi and Leaders Celebrate National Handloom Day in India
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings on National Handloom Day, expressing pride in India’s rich handloom heritage. He praised the efforts of artisans and emphasized the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also sent his best wishes, encouraging the adoption of handloom and indigenous products to achieve a self-reliant India.
The 10th National Handloom Day was celebrated at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, with Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar as the chief guest. Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh and Minister of State for External Affairs & Textiles Pabitra Margherita attended the event, along with MPs, designers, industry representatives, and over 1000 weavers.
During the event, the Sant Kabir Awards and National Handloom Awards were presented to outstanding weavers. A special book titled ‘Parampara- Sustainability in Handloom Traditions of India’ was also released by the Vice President.
National Handloom Day, first celebrated on August 7, 2015, commemorates the Swadeshi Movement of 1905, which encouraged indigenous industries. The day honors handloom weavers and aims to raise awareness about the sector’s importance to India’s socio-economic development.
