Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan have announced the creation of new Theatre Commands in India. The Defence Ministry has identified three locations for their headquarters: Lucknow, Jaipur, and Thiruvananthapuram.

Locations and Responsibilities

The Western Theatre Command, focusing on Pakistan, will be headquartered in Jaipur. The Northern Theatre Command, addressing threats from the eastern and northern sides, will be based in Lucknow. The Maritime Theatre Command, led by the Indian Navy, will be set up in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, to oversee maritime borders.

Integration and Modernization

The Department of Military Affairs (DMA), under Gen Anil Chauhan, is working on over 150 points to enhance integration among the three services. This includes standardizing operating procedures and integrating repair and maintenance facilities for common platforms like Apache attack helicopters, ALH Dhruv, and AK-203 assault rifles.

Future Preparedness

The Modi government and the BJP have committed to creating Theatre Commands for better war preparedness. The CDS and the three services have worked together to resolve issues and have made significant progress. The Theatre Commands will be supported by agencies like Cyber Command, Space Command, and Armed Forces Special Operations Division.
