PM Modi and BJP Leaders Remember the 50th Anniversary of the Emergency in India

New Delhi, India – On June 25, BJP president and Union Minister JP Nadda, along with other party leaders and Union Ministers like Rajnath Singh, S Jaishankar, and Nirmala Sitharaman, shared their thoughts on social media about the 50th anniversary of the Emergency in India.

The Emergency was a 21-month period starting on June 25, 1975, when then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi imposed strict rules, limiting citizens’ rights. PM Narendra Modi called this period a ‘dark chapter’ in Indian democracy. Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized the Congress party, saying it has a history of ‘murdering democracy’ and highlighted the suspension of citizens’ rights during the Emergency.

Rajnath Singh emphasized that the Emergency is a dark chapter in India’s history and praised those who fought to restore democracy. S Jaishankar also remembered the courage of those who resisted the Emergency and stressed the importance of protecting democracy.

JP Nadda shared how the Emergency shook the foundations of India’s democracy and praised those who stood up for constitutional values. Nitin Gadkari honored those who opposed the Emergency and helped re-establish democracy. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman cited a newspaper article to highlight the hardships faced during the Emergency, including forced mass sterilizations and press censorship.

PM Modi, addressing the media, urged citizens to remember the day and take a resolution to protect democracy so that such an event never happens again. He emphasized the importance of a vibrant democracy and fulfilling the dreams of the common people according to the Constitution of India.
