India and ASEAN Join Forces for Digital Transformation

India and ASEAN countries have emphasized the importance of digital public infrastructure (DPI) in driving digital transformation and fostering inclusivity, efficiency, and innovation. This commitment was reaffirmed during the 21st ASEAN-India Summit held in Vientiane, Laos.

India’s Contribution

ASEAN nations appreciated India’s role in implementing the “ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2025” and plans for ASEAN-India Digital Works. This includes knowledge sharing, capacity building, and establishing Centres of Excellence in Software Development and Training in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam.

Collaboration Opportunities

India and ASEAN recognized collaboration opportunities in DPI, financial technology, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), and sustainable financing. They aim to share knowledge and practices in DPI development across sectors like education, healthcare, agriculture, and climate action.

FinTech and Cybersecurity

FinTech innovation is seen as a key driver for economic partnership, with potential cross-border payment system linkages. The ASEAN India Track 1 Cyber Policy Dialogue will expand cybersecurity cooperation to support the digital economy.

AI and Capacity Building

AI collaboration will focus on developing skills, infrastructure, and policies to responsibly leverage AI technologies. Existing frameworks, such as the ASEAN India Digital Ministers’ Meeting, will facilitate regular exchanges and capacity building exercises.

Future Plans

Both regions acknowledged the development of the “ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2026-2030” to build on ADM 2025, aiming for seamless digital advancement by 2030, aligning with ASEAN Community Vision 2045.
