Philippine Security Adviser Eduardo Ano Stands Firm Against China in South China Sea Dispute

Philippine National Security Adviser Eduardo Ano has declared that the Philippines will stand firm in its dispute with China over the South China Sea. Despite repeated confrontations, Ano emphasized the country’s commitment to peace and diplomacy, rejecting the use of force. This stance comes as China claims over 90% of the South China Sea, which an international tribunal ruled has no legal basis. The Philippines has strengthened ties with the United States and allies in response to China’s actions.

Confrontations in the South China Sea

Manila and Beijing have been involved in severe confrontations over the strategic waterway. Both sides have accused each other of dangerous maneuvers near the disputed Second Thomas Shoal near the Spratly Islands.

Commitment to Peace

Ano stated, “We will continue to stand our ground and push back against coercion, interference, malign influence and other tactics that seek to jeopardize our security and stability.” He added that the Philippines is committed to addressing issues through dialogue and diplomacy.

International Tribunal Ruling

In 2016, an international tribunal in The Hague ruled that China has no legal basis for its claims over the South China Sea. However, Beijing has rejected this ruling, calling it null and void.

Strengthening Alliances

In response to China’s actions, the Philippines has strengthened its relations with the United States and its allies.
