Phil Simmons, a cricket legend from the West Indies, has been appointed as the new head coach of the Bangladesh cricket team. This change comes after Chandika Hathurusinghe was suspended by the Bangladesh Cricket Board for disciplinary reasons.

In his first press conference, Simmons emphasized the importance of keeping the team’s focus on cricket. He stated, “[Keeping distractions away from the players] is a big part of our job over the next few days, to make sure the focus is on the cricket, and not on the outside of cricket.”

Simmons is optimistic about Bangladesh’s chances in the World Test Championship. He mentioned that winning the upcoming Test matches could put the team in contention for the final. “We win the next few Tests, and we are in contention for the [WTC] final,” he said.

Bangladesh is set to face South Africa in a two-match Test series starting October 21. The first match will be held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, and the second at Chattogram’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on October 29.
