Phil Salt to Keep Wicket for England in T20I Series Against West Indies

Even though Jos Buttler, the captain of the England cricket team, has recovered from a calf injury, Phil Salt will continue as the wicketkeeper for the upcoming T20I series against the West Indies. Buttler missed the previous series against Australia, where England tied the T20Is and narrowly lost the ODIs. In his absence, Phil Salt and Harry Brook led the T20I and ODI teams, respectively.

Phil Salt mentioned that he hasn’t done much wicketkeeping for England recently but enjoys the role and feels it is where he contributes most to the team. Salt has kept wicket in 13 of his 59 matches for England across different formats and is currently the wicketkeeper in the ODI series against the West Indies.

Jos Buttler has started training at Kensington Oval but will not be available for the third ODI match. However, he will resume his captaincy duties from the five-match T20I series. This will be Buttler’s first appearance since England’s defeat in the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final in June.

In the first two ODI matches against the West Indies, Phil Salt scored 77 runs with a strike rate of 87.50. The ODI series is currently tied 1-1, with the West Indies winning the first game and England winning the second. The third ODI match is scheduled for Wednesday at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown.

The first and second T20I matches will also be held at Kensington Oval on November 9 and 10. The final three matches of the series will take place at Beausejour Stadium in St Lucia on November 14, 16, and 17.
