PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi Confirms ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Will Be Held in Pakistan
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will be held in Pakistan, despite rumors of rescheduling. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi emphasized the ongoing renovation of major stadiums in Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Lahore, costing Rs12.8 billion.
Speaking at a press conference while reviewing the renovation work at Gaddafi Stadium, Naqvi said, “There’s a huge difference in international stadiums and those of ours […] none of our stadiums are of international standard.” He added that the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) team is working tirelessly to make the stadiums world-class.
Naqvi assured that the Champions Trophy will indeed take place in Pakistan, with match dates possibly shifting but the PCB actively coordinating with security agencies. The main target is to have the stadiums ready for the tournament.
Following this, the PCB issued a statement clarifying that certain media outlets had misrepresented Naqvi’s comments, creating unnecessary sensationalism. The PCB reiterated that the redevelopment of stadiums will be completed on schedule, ensuring their availability for the Champions Trophy.
The PCB is fully committed to hosting a world-class ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at three of Pakistan’s iconic venues, ensuring an unforgettable experience for cricket fans. The PCB has already submitted a draft schedule to the International Cricket Council (ICC), with proposed dates from 19 February to 9 March 2025.
Earlier, the PCB decided to shift the second Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh from Karachi to Rawalpindi due to ongoing construction work in Karachi National Stadium for next year’s ICC Champions Trophy.
