PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi Rejects Hybrid Model for ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan
Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has stated that there has been no discussion about a hybrid model for the ICC Champions Trophy, which Pakistan is set to host. Naqvi emphasized that the PCB is not open to considering such a model. He mentioned that while Indian media reports suggest India might not travel to Pakistan, no formal objections have been communicated to the PCB. Naqvi has asked for any objections to be provided in writing.
Sources from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have indicated that the Indian cricket team is unlikely to visit Pakistan for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. They suggested that the BCCI might request the ICC to relocate the matches to Dubai or Sri Lanka. The last bilateral cricket series between India and Pakistan was during the 2012-13 Pakistan tour of India, and since then, the teams have only met in ICC tournaments and Asia Cup events due to political tensions.
Naqvi expressed that “Cricket should be free from politics” and emphasized that sports should not be mixed with political issues. Pakistan is enhancing its cricket facilities in Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Multan in preparation for the Champions Trophy ODI tournament, expected to take place early next year.
