PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi Makes Big Changes After T20 World Cup Exit

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made significant changes to its selection committee following the team’s early exit from the T20 World Cup. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced a new structure for the selection committee, which will now include coaches and captains of both white-ball and red-ball formats.

Former cricketers Mohammad Yousuf and Asad Shafiq will also be part of the new selection committee. This decision comes after the Babar Azam-led team failed to progress beyond the group stage in the recent T20 World Cup.

On Wednesday, the PCB confirmed that Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz have been informed that their services are no longer required in the national selection committee. Razzaq was involved in both men’s and women’s selection committees, while Wahab was a selector for the men’s team. Wahab was also removed from his position as senior team manager, along with team manager Rana Mansoor, due to disciplinary issues.

Over the past four years, the PCB has seen six top selectors, including Wahab, Mohammad Wasim, Shahid Afridi, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Haroon Rashid, and Misbah-ul-Haq, all of whom had short tenures. Sources revealed that Wahab and Mansoor were accused of giving undue favors to certain players, who then failed to perform, leading to opposition from other selection committee members.

Following his removal, Wahab Riaz took to social media platform X to express his thoughts, stating, “There is a lot I can say, but I don’t want to be part of the blame games.” He also shared a letter emphasizing his dedication to Pakistan cricket, saying, “My time serving as a member of the selection committee for PCB comes to an end. I just want my people to know that I have served the game I love with faith and sincerity and have given 100 percent for the betterment of Pakistan cricket.”
