Pawan Kumar Gupta, the BJP candidate from Udhampur West Assembly constituency, submitted his nomination papers for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. Before submitting his papers, he held a roadshow where many BJP workers participated, waving BJP flags as his vehicle moved through the streets.

The elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be conducted in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, with the results to be declared on October 8. This is the first election in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370. There are 90 assembly constituencies in the region, with 7 seats reserved for SCs and 9 for STs. The state has 88.06 lakh eligible voters.

On Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah released the BJP’s manifesto for the elections. The manifesto includes 25 promises focusing on women, youth, and Kashmiri Pandits. It aims to restore temples and eliminate terrorism. BJP J-K chief Ravinder Raina described it as a ‘people’s manifesto’.

The BJP’s manifesto promises to implement the ‘Maa Samman Yojana’, providing Rs 18,000 per year to the senior most woman in every household in Jammu and Kashmir. It also promises assistance for Women SHGs on bank loan interest.

The National Conference and the Congress party are contesting the elections together, with support from the Samajwadi Party.
