Pawan Khera Calls for Stricter Laws After Kolkata Trainee Doctor Incident

Senior Congress leader Pawan Khera has called for stricter laws on rape following the alleged murder and sexual assault of a female trainee doctor in Kolkata. He urged the ruling BJP to hold discussions on the issue.

“We are constantly demanding that either make the law more strict or take opinions from all of us, sit together and talk, and behave like a responsible ruling political party. You (BJP) do selective outrage,” Khera said.

The incident has sparked national outrage, with protests and rallies across India. On August 27, chaos erupted in Kolkata as security personnel used tear gas, water cannons, and lathi-charge to disperse protestors marching towards the West Bengal State Secretariat Nabanna.

Recent cases in Rajasthan, Assam, and Maharashtra have also highlighted the growing concern over crimes against women. On August 25, a minor was allegedly gang-raped in a hospital in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Earlier in the month, minors were allegedly sexually assaulted in Assam’s Dhing area and Maharashtra’s Badalpur.
