Patna’s ISKCON Temple Faces Stampede Scare During Janmashtami Celebrations
Patna (Bihar) [India], August 27: During the Janmashtami festival at the ISKCON Temple in Patna, a stampede-like situation occurred. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajeev Mishra reported that no injuries were recorded and the police quickly controlled the situation. He stated, “The situation is orderly. For half an hour, a huge number of devotees thronged the ISKCON Temple on the occasion of the Janmashtami festival. When the crowd increased, the number of security forces also increased. All senior officers are present on the spot. The program is going on in a very orderly manner. So far, no injuries have been reported.”
Across the country, devotees celebrated Janmashtami by visiting temples to seek Lord Krishna’s blessings. Political leaders like Rajasthan CM Bhajanlal Sharma and Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel paid their respects. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla visited the Shree Mathuradheesh Ji Temple in Kota.
In Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, CM Yogi Adityanath offered prayers at the Gorakhnath Temple and interacted with children dressed as Lord Krishna. Madhya Pradesh CM Dr. Mohan Yadav performed prayers at the Sandipani Ashram.
Olympic medallist and Indian shooter Manu Bhaker attended a Janmashtami program and expressed her happiness about the event. She said, “I am happy that such a program has been organised. People are here even till night which shows people have faith in god… I believe that we should learn from the idols that we have like Lord Ram, Lord Krishna and implement it in our lives.”
Union Minister Annapurna Devi, BJP MPs Manoj Tiwari, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, and others attended the Krishna Janmashtami celebration at Dwarka. In Madhya Pradesh, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan sang a bhajan devoted to Lord Krishna at his residence in Bhopal.
In Uttarakhand, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, Governor Lt Gen Gurmeet Singh (retd.), and DGP Abhinav Kumar performed puja at Dehradun Police Lines. Singer Kailash Kher performed at a program in Indira Gandhi Stadium, Delhi.
In Maharashtra, the Dahi Handi festival was celebrated in the Worli area and at Sri Siddhi Temple. Devotees across India celebrated Janmashtami with special prayers, fasting, and decorating temples and homes with flowers, diyas, and lights. In Mathura, special prayers were held at Shri Krishna Janmasthan Temple, with the sound of bells and conch shells resonating throughout the city.
