Background of the Dispute
The conflict began with a property dispute between Mahalingam and his brother’s son-in-law, Pandiyarajan. To resolve the issue, Pandiyarajan arranged the marriage of his daughter Priya to Mahalingam’s son Alaguvijay. However, misunderstandings arose between Priya and Alaguvijay, leading Priya to file for maintenance and divorce.
Escalation and Murder
In March 2024, tensions escalated when Pandiyarajan demanded Mahalingam to give the property share meant for his daughter. This led to a quarrel and subsequent legal actions. Priya later informed her husband Alaguvijay that her father was planning to assault Mahalingam with the help of her uncle Balamurugan.
As a result, Mahalingam, Alaguvijay, and their associates Bharath, Naga Irulvel, Gokulakannan, and Penni murdered Balamurugan, who was known to be a rowdy. All the accused have been arrested.
