Paris Olympics 2024: PV Sindhu and Neeraj Chopra Lead India’s Medal Hopes
The Paris Olympics 2024 is about to start, with athletes from all over the world competing to win medals for their countries. India has sent 117 athletes, including 70 men and 47 women, to compete in 16 different sports. They will participate in 69 events and aim to win 95 medals.
Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu and multi-time medalist Achanta Sharath Kamal will lead the Indian team as flag-bearers. Indian fans have traveled to Paris to support their athletes. Sarvanan, who lives in England but is originally from Tamil Nadu, said, “We wish them all the very best. Neeraj Chopra, your throw will be even better than the last time.”
Saundarya, a fan of Neeraj Chopra and PV Sindhu, expressed her excitement, saying, “My children are excited to see Indian players in the Olympics. Chak De India!” Pritesh Salve, visiting Paris for the first time, said, “We are here just to cheer for India.”
Dhiraj Kumar Panna from Bhubaneswar hopes India will win more gold medals. He said, “It is a lifetime memory to come to the Olympics and cheer for India.”
India aims to surpass their previous best of seven medals from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The first chance for a medal will be in the mixed team air rifle event on July 27. Neeraj Chopra will compete in the javelin throw qualifiers on August 6, with the final on August 8. PV Sindhu will compete in badminton events from July 27 to August 5. Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu will compete on August 7, and boxer Lovlina Borgohain will be in action from July 27 to August 10. Nikhat Zareen will make her Olympic debut in boxing.
