For the first time in history, the Summer Games’ opening ceremony was held outside the stadium. Athletes were celebrated from boats cruising the Seine River, offering a spectacular show along a six-kilometre course. Leading the Indian team were two-time medallist PV Sindhu and five-time Olympian Sharath Kamal. Indian athletes will compete in various sports, including shooting, hockey, badminton, and tennis. The action starts with Balraj Panwar in rowing at 12:30 PM. In shooting, Sandeep Singh, Elavenil Valarivan, Arjun Babuta, and Ramita Jindal will compete in the 10 m air rifle mixed team qualification. Sarabjot Singh, Arjun Cheema, Manu Bhaker, and Rhythm Sangwan will participate in the 10 m air pistol qualifiers.
In tennis, Rohan Bopanna and N Sriram Balaji will compete in the men’s doubles from 3:30 PM. Badminton matches featuring Lakshya Sen, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty, Tanisha Crasto, and Ashwini Ponnappa will take place from 11:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Harmeet Desai will compete in men’s table tennis singles at 7:15 PM.
The Indian men’s hockey team will face New Zealand at 9:00 PM, aiming to improve on their bronze medal from Tokyo 2020. At 12:02 AM, Preeti will compete in the women’s 54 kg boxing round of 32.
