Paraguay, Marshall Islands, and Palau Support Taiwan’s Inclusion in the United Nations

During the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, leaders from Paraguay, the Marshall Islands, and Palau voiced their support for Taiwan’s inclusion in the United Nations. They emphasized the importance of Taiwan’s participation in international forums.

Paraguay’s Stand

Paraguayan President Santiago Pena highlighted the principle of ‘leave no nation behind’ and called Taiwan’s exclusion an ‘injustice.’ He stressed that Taiwan’s contributions to the international community should be recognized.

Palau’s Support

Palau’s Vice President Uduch Sengebau Sr reaffirmed her country’s strong relationship with Taiwan. She argued that Taiwan’s exclusion undermines the principles of inclusivity and cooperation that the United Nations represents.

Marshall Islands’ Perspective

Marshall Islands President Hilda Heine stated that only Taiwan’s independent democratic government can effectively represent its 23 million citizens. She argued that UN Resolution 2758 has been misused to exclude Taiwan and should not be a barrier to its participation.

Background

Taiwan split from China in 1949, but Beijing still considers it a Chinese territory. Despite this, Taiwan governs itself and has a technology-heavy economy. China has frequently sent fighter jets and warships near Taiwan, increasing tensions in the region.
