Pandemic Fund Grants $418 Million to Strengthen Global Health Preparedness
The Pandemic Fund’s Governing Board has approved $418 million in new grants to enhance pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response in 40 countries across six regions. These funds will improve disease surveillance, upgrade laboratories, and build a health workforce. This is in addition to $128.89 million previously approved for mpox emergency projects, totaling $547 million in the second funding round. Over 50% of the funds are allocated to sub-Saharan Africa, with 74% benefiting low and lower-middle-income countries. The Pandemic Fund aims to mobilize resources and encourage countries to invest in pandemic preparedness. Co-chairs Chatib Basri and Sabin Nsanzimana emphasized the importance of international collaboration and urged global leaders to support the fund further.
