Pakistan’s NAB Challenges Imran Khan’s Bail in 190 Million Pound Scandal

Islamabad [Pakistan], June 29: Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has challenged the bail granted to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan by the Islamabad High Court in a 190 million pound National Crime Agency (NCA) scandal.

The NAB Chairman has moved the Pakistan Supreme Court against the high court’s decision, claiming that the court ‘neglected’ important facts while granting bail to the former prime minister. The Supreme Court has been asked to overturn the Islamabad High Court’s verdict.

In May, the Islamabad High Court granted bail to Imran Khan in the NCA settlement case. A two-member bench, including IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, ordered Khan’s release against a surety bond of Rs 1 million.

The NAB has launched an investigation against Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and others for allegedly gaining hundreds of canals of land in the name of Al Qadir University Trust, causing a loss of 190 million pounds to the national exchequer. The charges claim that Khan and others adjusted Rs 50 billion to 190 million pounds sent by Britain’s NCA to the government.

In December 2023, the NAB filed a corruption reference against Imran Khan and seven others, including his wife, related to the Al-Qadir University project, which was registered on December 26, 2019.
