Pakistan’s Minister Attaullah Tarar Announces More Arrests After Ex-ISI Chief Faiz Hamid’s Detention

Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Information, Attaullah Tarar, has stated that more high-profile figures will be apprehended as the investigation expands following the arrest of former Director-General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hamid. Hamid was taken into custody on August 12 over allegations of land grabbing and seizing valuables from a private housing society owner.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Tarar emphasized the military’s self-accountability mechanism and transparency in the investigation. He hinted that the scope of the investigation would widen, potentially involving former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar, who has been accused of favoring Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan. Nisar, however, dismissed rumors of his involvement, clarifying that he is on a planned holiday in London.

Tarar accused Imran Khan of conspiring with Hamid to spread unrest and division in Pakistan. He claimed that Khan and his associates, including the recently arrested individuals, were involved in efforts to destabilize the country. Tarar also accused Khan of supporting terrorists and facilitating their return to Pakistan.

The military announced that the Field General Court Martial process has been initiated against Hamid, following orders from the Supreme Court. The investigation was prompted by a petition from a land development company, Top City, alleging that Hamid and his brother had acquired properties and blackmailed the company’s owner.
