Pakistani Government Faces Backlash Over Potential Ban on Imran Khan’s Party

The Pakistani government’s consideration of banning Imran Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been met with widespread criticism from various political parties.

Political Parties React

Leaders from other political parties, including the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Awami National Party, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, and Jamaat-i-Islami, have condemned the move as undemocratic and warned of its far-reaching implications.

PTI’s Response

PTI leaders, including Omar Ayub Khan, supported by party chairperson Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, stated that the government was trying to intimidate the 240 million people of Pakistan. They vowed to continue fighting against what they described as attempts to plunge the country into chaos.

PPP’s Stand

PPP leaders, including Khursheed Shah and Farhatullah Babar, also voiced their opposition. Khursheed Shah emphasized that such decisions do not address the real issues, while Farhatullah Babar warned of a potential political crisis.

Ex-PPP senator Mian Raza Rabbani urged the government to refrain from taking such a step, calling it against democratic principles.
