Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Asks Supreme Court to Review ‘Bat’ Symbol Decision

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has asked the Supreme Court to review its decision that denied the party its ‘bat’ symbol for general elections. PTI claims that this judgement has caused significant loss and has disenfranchised voters who wanted to elect PTI candidates.

The issue is being debated before a full bench in the reserved seats case. PTI argues that the question of whether taking away the ‘bat’ symbol resulted in the non-allocation of reserved seats or if the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) misinterpreted the Supreme Court’s order needs to be resolved.

PTI has requested an early hearing to avoid further loss and injury. The Supreme Court’s Justice Athar Minallah has asked the ECP to justify PTI’s exclusion from the electoral process. The case is currently being reviewed by a bench of five judges.
