Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif Meets Bangladesh Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus

On August 30, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Professor Muhammad Yunus, the head of Bangladesh’s interim government. Sharif praised Yunus for his contributions to Bangladesh’s socio-economic development and expressed his sympathies over the recent devastating floods in Bangladesh.

Sharif shared his thoughts on social media, congratulating Yunus on his new role and highlighting the deep-rooted bonds of history, faith, and culture between Pakistan and Bangladesh. He expressed a desire to foster stronger bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Bangladesh has been facing a challenging situation with lawlessness and violence following the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5. The interim government, led by Yunus and under the control of the Bangladesh Army, is working to restore order.

On August 22, Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma met with Yunus and reiterated India’s commitment to working with Bangladesh. The Ministry of External Affairs of India clarified that the opening of the Dumbur dam in Tripura did not cause the recent floods in Bangladesh, attributing the floods to heavy rains in the catchment areas of the Gumti River.
