Pakistan International Airlines Offices Closed for SCO Summit

Islamabad, Pakistan – Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced the closure of its offices in Islamabad from October 14 to 16. This decision is part of the security measures being implemented ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit. PIA, the national airline of Pakistan, has been operational for over 70 years but is currently facing economic challenges, leading to privatization efforts. The airline’s debt stands at PKR 825 billion.

Despite the office closures, PIA employees working in shifts at the airport will continue their duties. Additionally, access to the Red Zone area in Islamabad is restricted to ensure security during the summit. The SCO Meetings will take place in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, prompting various security measures, including increased security at Adiala Jail, the imposition of Section 144 in cities like Karachi and Rawalpindi, and the deployment of Pakistan Army troops in Islamabad from October 5 to 17.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has also announced a three-day closure from October 14 to 16, affecting its principal seat in Islamabad, while provincial registries will remain open. This decision follows an official notification by the Cabinet Division.
