Pakistan Government Plans to Ban Imran Khan’s PTI Party
Announcement by Information Minister Atta Tarar
On Monday, Pakistan’s Information Minister Atta Tarar announced that the government plans to file a case to ban Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. Tarar emphasized the need to move the country forward without PTI, citing ‘credible evidence’ for the decision.
Government’s Legal Actions
The government also intends to file a review petition with the Supreme Court of Pakistan to challenge its recent ruling that favored PTI’s eligibility for reserved seats for women and minorities.
PTI’s Response
Naeem Haider Panjutha, spokesperson for Imran Khan on Legal Affairs, stated that the government has no right to ban PTI. He argued that only the Supreme Court can issue such an order under Article 17 (2) of the Constitution of Pakistan. Panjutha criticized the government’s actions as arrogant and disconnected from reality.
Official Statement from PTI
In an official response, PTI accused the government of daydreaming about banning the party. They warned that such actions could destabilize Pakistan and lead to civil unrest. PTI urged the government to learn from past mistakes and avoid actions that could harm the country.
