The Pakistan government has issued a new order that stops all government employees from using social media without permission. This is to prevent the sharing of official information and documents. The order is based on the Government Servants (Conduct) Rules, 1964.

According to the memorandum, government employees are not allowed to express opinions or facts that could harm the government’s reputation. They are also not permitted to speak against government policies, decisions, national sovereignty, and dignity. Public servants cannot share their opinions on social media without permission.

Strict actions will be taken against employees who violate these rules. The memorandum also states that employees cannot share official documents and information with unrelated persons or speak to the media in a way that affects Pakistan’s relations with other countries.

The guidelines are not meant to ban the positive use of social media. Institutions are asked to monitor their social media platforms to remove any objectionable content. All government servants must follow these instructions, and violations may lead to misconduct proceedings.

Federal secretaries, additional secretaries, heads of departments, and chief secretaries are responsible for executing the memorandum.
