Pakistan Cricket Team Faces Changes After Poor T20 World Cup Performance

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to make changes to its seven-member selection committee after the team’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup 2024. The PCB will review what went wrong, and the selection committee may be reduced in size. There is frustration within the PCB, and Wahab Riaz might leave the committee.

Earlier, Pakistan’s white-ball head coach Gary Kirsten criticized the players for their performance and questioned their approach after an early exit from the T20 World Cup. Kirsten expressed concerns over the players’ fitness, stating they are not up to the mark. He said, “Despite playing so much cricket, no one knows which shot to play and when.”

Pakistan ended their campaign with a three-wicket win over Ireland in Florida, but it was a dead rubber as India and USA had already advanced to the Super 8 stage from Group A. Pakistan suffered back-to-back defeats against co-hosts USA and their rival, India, before bouncing back with two wins, which were not enough to secure a spot in the Super 8.

Skipper Babar Azam, along with Imad Wasim, Haris Rauf, Shadab Khan, and Azam Khan, extended their stay in the United States and will leave for Pakistan on June 22. Mohammad Amir has also stayed behind but will travel to England soon to join Derbyshire in the County Championship.
