Pakistan Cricket Stars Babar Azam, Rizwan, and Afridi May Miss Global T20 Canada
Pakistan’s cricket stars Babar Azam, Mohammed Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi are unlikely to receive No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to play in the upcoming Global T20 Canada, according to sources. Despite the league’s schedule not clashing with Pakistan’s international fixtures, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is hesitant to issue NOCs due to a busy schedule ahead.
Pakistan will play a two-match Test series against Bangladesh starting on August 21, while the Global T20 Canada runs from July 25 to August 11. The PCB’s policy restricts players who participate in all formats from receiving NOCs to prevent injuries and manage their workload.
Star pacer Naseem Shah was also denied an NOC last week to participate in The Hundred. The PCB made this decision to protect him from injuries, as he plays in all three formats and faced fitness challenges last year.
Other players with Global T20 Canada contracts include Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Nawaz, Asif Ali, and Iftikhar Ahmed. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi stated that NOCs would be granted based on fitness, performance, and discipline.
Additionally, Pakistan’s red-ball head coach Jason Gillispie hinted that Shaheen Afridi might miss the Test series against Bangladesh due to the expected birth of his first child. Gillispie mentioned that Afridi could be given rest to stay with his wife during this time.
