Pakistan Cricket Board Considers Sri Lanka or UAE for Test Series Against England

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is planning to consider alternatives such as Sri Lanka or the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for hosting Pakistan’s Test series against England. This decision comes as key stadiums in Pakistan undergo renovations.

Recent Challenges

In Jason Gillespie’s first assignment as Test head coach of Pakistan, the team, led by Shan Masood, faced a whitewash against Bangladesh on their home soil. The second Test of that series had to be moved from Karachi to Rawalpindi due to construction work at Karachi National Stadium.

Upcoming Series

Pakistan is set to host England for a three-match Test series, which is part of the ongoing International Cricket Council (ICC) World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle. The first Test will begin on October 7 in Multan, the second on October 15 in Karachi, and the third on October 24 in Rawalpindi.

Possible Venues

Due to the ongoing renovations at Karachi National Stadium, Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, and Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, the PCB is considering Sri Lanka or the UAE as alternative venues. If the series is hosted in the UAE, Abu Dhabi will be the only option available because the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup will be held in Dubai and Sharjah from October 3 to 20.

Pakistan’s Current Standing

Pakistan is eager to bounce back after their recent slump against Bangladesh, which saw them drop to eighth position in the ICC Test rankings, their lowest since 1965.
