Pakistan and China Unite Against Terrorism at SCO Summit

During the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, Pakistan and China pledged to fight terrorism with a zero-tolerance policy. Both countries agreed to work with the international community to enhance counter-terrorism efforts through organizations like the United Nations and the SCO.

Pakistan condemned recent attacks on Chinese personnel, including the March 26, 2024, attack on the Dasu Hydropower Project and the October 6, 2024, attack on the Port Qasim Power Plant convoy. Pakistan promised to investigate these incidents and bring those responsible to justice.

The Dasu Hydropower Project attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Shangla district resulted in the deaths of five Chinese engineers and one Pakistani. A suicide bomber targeted a bus, causing it to fall into a deep ditch. The Port Qasim Power Plant attack near Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport led to the deaths of two Chinese nationals and injuries to others.

During a meeting at the summit, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari expressed condolences to Chinese Premier Li Qiang for the loss of Chinese nationals. Zardari assured that Pakistan would enhance security for Chinese nationals and projects, emphasizing that attempts to disrupt Pakistan-China relations would fail.
