During the first Test in Rawalpindi, both Pakistan and Bangladesh were found guilty of a slow overrate, according to the ICC. Pakistan, led by Shan Masood, were six overs short and lost six World Test Championship points. Najmul Hossain Shanto’s Bangladesh were three overs short and lost three points. Additionally, Pakistan were fined 30% of their match fee, while Bangladesh were fined 15%.

Both captains, Shan Masood and Najmul Hossain Shanto, accepted the penalties, so no formal hearings were needed. Pakistan remains in the eighth spot on the World Test Championship standings, while Bangladesh has dropped to seventh.

The first Test had a delayed start due to a wet outfield but turned into an exciting match by the fifth day. Pakistan declared their innings at 448/6, thanks to centuries from Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel. Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim and Shadnam Islam also performed well, with scores of 191 and 93, respectively.

On the final day, Pakistan were bowled out for 146, with only Rizwan showing resistance. Bangladesh’s spinners, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan, took key wickets. Bangladesh needed just 30 runs to win, which they achieved without losing a wicket, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. The second Test will begin in Rawalpindi on Friday.
