Pahari Korwa Community in Chhattisgarh Receives Safe Concrete Houses from Modi Government

The Chhattisgarh government has provided concrete houses to the Pahari Korwa community under the Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana. This initiative has replaced the unsafe makeshift huts with permanent homes, ensuring safety from scorpions, snakes, and rain.

Pahari Korwa is a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG). A beneficiary shared, “After almost four generations, we have been given a permanent house by the Modi government and we have been living well ever since. In the mud house, scorpions and snakes would come and bite us. Ever since the Modi government has given us this permanent house, we feel safe.”

Another woman beneficiary said, “Now we have a permanent house instead of a mud house. Modi government has given and done a lot for the Pahari Korwa community.”

Under this campaign, concrete houses will replace the makeshift huts in which generations of Pahari Korwa families have lived. A beneficiary mentioned, “4-5 generations ago, we were allotted a temporary house, and now in the same place we have been given a ‘pakka’ house by the Chhattisgarh government. Now that we have a permanent house, we will have no trouble. The Modi government has given us this house.”

Balrampur district, located in Chhattisgarh’s northern part, has around 5000 families of PVTG, most of whom were residing in makeshift huts made from mud. These villagers faced serious problems, including water dripping during the rainy season and threats from snakes, scorpions, and other poisonous insects.

Now, the problem has been resolved to a greater extent as the population belonging to PVTG is receiving housing facilities under the central government’s Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana. According to district administration officials, beneficiaries receive Rs 2 lakh in four installments for the construction of houses. Apart from the labor payment of 45 days, the government is providing Rs 12000 for the construction of the toilet. Funds are directly transferred to beneficiaries’ bank accounts, and hundreds of people belonging to PVTG have already completed the construction of houses under this scheme.
