P Chidambaram Talks About INDIA Bloc’s Success and Emergency Anniversary
New Delhi [India], July 14: Following the INDIA bloc’s strong performance in recent by-polls across seven states, senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP P Chidambaram expressed confidence that the ‘wind is behind the sails of the INDIA bloc.’
In an interview, Chidambaram said the by-elections show the public’s mood is against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). However, he emphasized that a strong party structure is necessary for continued success.
Out of 13 assembly constituencies, the INDIA bloc won 10 seats, the BJP won two, and an independent candidate won one. The by-polls were held in Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, and Madhya Pradesh.
Chidambaram also criticized the central government’s decision to observe ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’ on June 25, marking the anniversary of the 1975 Emergency imposed by then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He argued that the past should be forgotten and lessons have been learned.
