In Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, a tragic incident occurred on Sunday when an overhead water tank collapsed, resulting in the deaths of two women and injuries to 13 people. The incident took place in the Krishna Vihar area of Awas Vikas Colony.

Immediate Response

Following the collapse, local authorities, including the police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), quickly arrived at the scene to begin rescue operations. The injured were promptly taken to the hospital, with one person reported to be in critical condition.

Damage and Impact

The collapse caused significant damage to nearby houses and vehicles. Debris and water from the tank entered several homes, damaging electrical equipment and cars parked on the road.

Official Statements

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered an investigation and instructed that an FIR be filed against the contractor responsible for the tank. Inspector General Deepak Kumar confirmed the ongoing rescue operations and the registration of an FIR.

Mathura SSP Shailesh Pandey and DM Shailendra Singh emphasized that their priority is the treatment of the injured and that strict action will be taken against those found guilty. They also visited the district hospital to check on the injured.

Political Reactions

Local MLA Shrikant Sharma inspected the site and hospital, confirming that an FIR would be lodged. Opposition parties, including the Congress and Samajwadi Party, have called for a thorough investigation and demanded compensation for the victims’ families. Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh blamed the incident on government corruption and also demanded compensation.

Ongoing Efforts

The Assistant Commandant of NDRF stated that the rescue operation would continue until Monday evening to ensure no further accidents occur. Fortunately, there is no indication that anyone is buried under the debris.
