Over 100 Imran Khan’s Party Workers Arrested Before PTI Rally in Lahore
Over 100 workers of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), were arrested by Punjab Police ahead of a rally in Lahore on September 21. The arrests were made under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Act, with police alleging the detainees were causing unrest and law and order issues.
The Lahore High Court dismissed a plea by advocate Nadeem Sarwar seeking a ban on the PTI rally, stating that Sarwar was not an ‘affected party.’ In response, PTI leaders Sheikh Imtiaz and Yasir Gillani filed a plea against the arrests, claiming it violated their constitutional right to organize a rally. They requested the court to stop the arrests and allow the rally to proceed peacefully.
PTI announced plans to hold a power show in Lahore on Saturday. PTI General Secretary for Lahore, Awais Younis, stated that tasks have been given to party officials to ensure the rally’s success, and that Lahore residents will show their support for the party and its founder.
Earlier, during a rally on September 8, PTI was warned by local administration to adhere to the rally’s NOC guidelines, which required them to vacate the venue by 7pm.
