Outrage in Ujjain: Woman Raped on Public Footpath, Accused Arrested
A shocking incident in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, has caused widespread outrage. A video showing a woman being raped on a public footpath has been shared widely on social media. The crime took place on September 4 under the jurisdiction of Kotwali police.

The woman reported the crime to the Kotwali police station at around 3:30 pm on the same day. City Superintendent of Police Om Prakash Mishra stated that a woman officer was called to hear her story, and an FIR was registered. The accused, Lokesh, was arrested within two hours of the FIR being filed. Lokesh admitted to the crime during questioning and was sent to Bherugarh jail after being presented in court on September 5.

Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari criticized the silence of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. In response, Madhya Pradesh BJP chief VD Sharma stated that the accused had been arrested and that the state government would ensure strict action. He accused Congress of trying to create controversy. Congress leader Pramod Tiwari also criticized BJP-ruled states, saying that the nation feels ashamed of such incidents.
