In Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, officials have detected two wolves using drones as part of ‘Operation Bhediya’. The wolves have been responsible for the deaths of eight people in the area. Abhishek Singh, CO Forest, Bahraich Division, stated that the team, under the guidance of the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), is working to capture the wolves by today or tomorrow.

So far, four wolves have been captured, and the search for the remaining two is ongoing. The forest department has laid traps and is using drones, nets, and cages to catch the wolves. Seven children and a woman have been killed in wolf attacks over the past two months.

Divisional Forest Officer Akashdeep Badhawan mentioned that the wolves are under constant surveillance using direct and indirect sightings, pad marks, and infrared (IR) drones. One wolf was tranquillized and captured on Thursday.

To protect villagers, the forest department is bursting firecrackers at night. Circle Officer of Mahasi, Rupendra Gaur, assured that efforts are being made to prevent further incidents. Eight people have died, and 15 others are injured due to wolf attacks.

MLA Sureshwar Singh noted that the wolf scare began on July 17, 2024, in Bahraich and its Mahasi Assembly constituency. Since then, eight deaths and 20 injuries have been reported. Measures are being taken to ensure electricity in affected areas and to set up doors at houses where incidents occurred. Singh is also carrying a rifle to boost the morale of the people.

Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh Forest Department deployed an IR drone, which detected the presence of two wolves in Bahraich.
