Operation Bhediya: Wolves Attack Villagers in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh
The Uttar Pradesh Police and the Forest Department are on a mission called ‘Operation Bhediya’ to find two dangerous wolves in Bahraich district. Earlier, they had caught four wolves, but the remaining ones are still causing trouble.
Recent Attacks
On Monday night, a five-year-old girl was attacked by a wolf while she was sleeping next to her grandmother. Her family and neighbors quickly came to her rescue, and she was taken to the Community Health Centre Mahasi for treatment. Kalim, a neighbor, said it was the first time a wolf had come to their village.
Another neighbor, Wasi Ahmad, explained that the girl was attacked after dinner while sleeping outside with her grandmother. The wolf ran away when the family screamed for help. The girl’s grandmother and mother also shared their terrifying experience of the attack.
Authorities’ Response
ADG Zone Gorakhpur, Dr. KS Pratap Kumar, mentioned that the Forest Department and the police are working together in a specialized strategy. The area has been divided into seven teams, with each Gram Panchayat having a police team to ensure safety.
On the same day, a three-year-old girl was killed, and two women were injured in another wolf attack. This has caused anger among the locals, who blame the administration for not doing enough. The Mahasi Civil Health Centre Incharge confirmed the tragic incident.
DFO Bahraich, Ajit Pratap Singh, is currently leading a search operation in Thalia village to catch the wolves. The mother of the deceased child shared her sorrowful story, explaining how the wolf attacked her daughter in the early morning hours.
