Omar Ayub to Stay as PTI Secretary-General Despite Resignation
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided not to accept the resignation of its Secretary-General, Omar Ayub Khan. Omar Ayub had stepped down in June to focus on his role as the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly of Pakistan. However, PTI’s core committee and parliamentary party opposed his resignation and asked him to continue in his position.
In an official statement, PTI said that Omar Ayub will remain as the Secretary-General and continue to benefit the party with his political experience and leadership. The statement highlighted that both the parliamentary party and the core committee unanimously reposed trust in him and commended his services.
PTI founder Imran Khan also appreciated Omar Ayub’s contributions to the party. On June 22, 2024, Omar Ayub had submitted his resignation through a letter addressed to Imran Khan and PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, mentioning upcoming changes in the party’s organizational structure.
This development comes amid reports of internal rifts within PTI. Some PTI-backed lawmakers from the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) were considering resigning from the National Assembly in protest against the party’s top leadership. Despite these reports, Imran Khan has denied any major differences within the party.
