Omar Ayub Resigns as PTI Secretary General, Imran Khan Accepts
Islamabad [Pakistan], September 8: Omar Ayub, the opposition leader in Pakistan’s National Assembly, announced that Imran Khan, founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has accepted his resignation as the party’s secretary general. Ayub had previously resigned in June but was asked to continue.
In a post on X, Ayub said, “I had requested Senator Shibli Faraz to convey my resignation as Secretary General PTI during his meeting with Imran Khan on Thursday, 5th September, 2024. I am most grateful and indebted to Imran Khan that he has accepted my resignation letter dated 4th September 2024.”
Ayub explained that the heavy workload of his multiple roles, including Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Secretary General PTI, and his legal battles, led to his decision. He will continue to work as a PTI member and support the new secretary general.
“Let us all strive to make the Jalsa of 8th September 2024 at Sanjrani Islamabad a resounding success, inshallah. Wishing the new Secretary General all the best. I will work closely and tirelessly with the new Secretary General,” Ayub added.
Earlier, on July 7, PTI had rejected Ayub’s resignation, asking him to continue serving in line with instructions from Imran Khan. However, Ayub’s resignation has now been accepted.
