Omar Abdullah Warns BJP as Jammu and Kashmir Election Results Awaited

In Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, the counting of votes for the Assembly election has begun. Omar Abdullah, Vice President of the National Conference, cautioned the BJP against any unfair actions if the election results do not favor them. He expressed confidence in the victory of the NC-Congress alliance, stating, “We have the hope that we will win. The decision has been made by the voters of Jammu and Kashmir, and we will get to know it by today afternoon.”

Omar Abdullah emphasized the need for transparency and mentioned that the alliance with Congress was formed to secure a win. The region is witnessing elections after a decade. He also noted that it is too early to determine if support from other parties like the PDP will be necessary, saying, “Neither have we asked for any support from them nor have we received any support…let the result come.”

The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and Congress, part of the INDIA alliance, contested the elections together, while the PDP and BJP ran independently. TS Tony, a Congress candidate, predicted a 2/3 majority win for the Congress-NC alliance, criticizing the BJP for turning the “city of temples” into a “city of liquors” and accusing them of undermining democracy.

The election for 90 constituencies took place in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1.
