Omar Abdullah to Take Oath as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir

Omar Abdullah, Vice President of the Jammu Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), is set to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir today. The ceremony will take place at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, with J-K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha administering the oath.

This event follows the recent assembly elections where the Congress-National Conference alliance secured 48 seats, with the NC winning 42 and Congress six. This marks the first elected government in the region since the abrogation of Article 370 and the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir into Union Territories.

Omar Abdullah, who has previously served as Chief Minister from 2009 to 2015 and as Union Minister of State for External Affairs, follows in the footsteps of his grandfather Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and father Farooq Abdullah, both former leaders of the region.

Security has been increased around Omar Abdullah’s residence in Srinagar. The President’s rule, in place since 2018, was recently lifted, allowing for the formation of a new government.

Many leaders from the INDIA Bloc, including Akhilesh Yadav, Prakash Karat, Supriya Sule, and Kanimozhi, have arrived in Srinagar to attend the ceremony. The JKNC shared images of these leaders on social media, highlighting the significance of the event.
