The National Conference and Congress alliance has emerged victorious in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. According to the Election Commission, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) secured 42 seats, making it the largest party. The BJP followed with 29 seats, and Congress won 6 seats. Seven independent candidates also won, while Mehbooba Mufti’s PDP secured 3 seats, and Sajad Gani Lone’s JKPC won 1 seat. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) made its debut by winning a seat in Doda, with Mehraj Malik defeating BJP’s Gajay Singh Rana. The CPI(M) also won a seat.

The BJP achieved a vote share of 25.64%, followed by the National Conference with 23.43%, and Congress with 11.97%. With these results, the National Conference-Congress alliance is set to form the next government, with Omar Abdullah as the Chief Minister, as confirmed by Farooq Abdullah. Farooq Abdullah expressed gratitude to voters and emphasized addressing issues like unemployment and inflation.

Omar Abdullah criticized exit polls, calling them a “waste of time” and ridiculing those who believe in them. Union Minister Jitendra Singh praised the BJP for its best performance in the region’s elections. The elections were held on September 18, September 25, and October 1.
