Omar Abdullah Confident About Upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], July 4: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed confidence that Assembly elections in the Union Territory will be held soon. He stated that his party, the National Conference, is fully prepared for the elections.

Omar Abdullah mentioned that the people expect the elections to be conducted within the timeframe set by the Supreme Court. National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah has called a two-day working committee meeting to discuss ways to strengthen the party and prepare for the upcoming elections. The current situation in Jammu and Kashmir was also discussed during the meeting.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his recent visit to the Union Territory, assured the people that Assembly elections would be held soon and indicated that statehood would be restored. He emphasized the importance of electing representatives to solve local problems and improve the future of Jammu and Kashmir.

Omar Abdullah also commented on the 18th Lok Sabha first session, criticizing the cutting of opposition speeches. He stated that everyone has the right to express their views and that the BJP needs to change its attitude.

Meanwhile, BJP Jammu and Kashmir Chief Ravinder Rana announced that BJP National President JP Nadda will visit the Union Territory on July 6 in view of the Assembly elections. Rana emphasized that the next Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir will be from the BJP.

The BJP-led government scrapped Article 370 in August 2019, bifurcating the state into two union territories. There have been demands for early Assembly elections and restoration of statehood. The Supreme Court had asked the Election Commission of India and the Centre to conduct polls by September. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar mentioned that the J-K Assembly polls will be held after the Lok Sabha elections due to logistical challenges.
