A Parliamentary delegation from India, led by Om Birla, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, is set to attend the 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva, Switzerland, from October 13 to 17, 2024. The delegation includes Harivansh, the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, and seven Members of Parliament: Bhartruhari Mahtab, Anurag Singh Thakur, Rajeev Shukla, Vishnu Dayal Ram, Aparajita Sarangi, Sasmit Patra, and Mamata Mohanta.

During the conference, the delegation will engage in discussions on various agenda items and attend meetings of different standing committees. These include the standing committee on Peace and International Security, the standing committee on Sustainable Development, the standing committee on Democracy and Human Rights, and the standing committee on United Nations Affairs. Additionally, they will participate in forums for Young Parliamentarians and Women Parliamentarians of the IPU.

The IPU, an association of parliaments from 180 countries, is a significant multilateral organization, second only to the UN General Assembly. It plays a crucial role in facilitating parliamentary diplomacy and empowering parliaments and parliamentarians to promote peace, democracy, and sustainable development worldwide.
