Om Birla Celebrates 4th Audit Diwas
On November 16, Om Birla, the Speaker of Lok Sabha, inaugurated the 4th Audit Diwas celebrations in New Delhi. This event marks the appointment of India’s first Auditor General in 1860, celebrating 164 years of contributions to financial oversight and governance in India.
India’s Auditing Excellence
Om Birla praised the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India for its role in strengthening accountability and transparency. He noted that officials from over 50 countries visit India to learn from its auditing system.
Global Recognition
The CAG has become a globally recognized institution, assuming the chairmanship of ASOSAI for 2024-2027. The Speaker highlighted the CAG’s use of emerging technologies like AI to enhance audit processes.
Girish Chandra Murmu’s Vision
Girish Chandra Murmu, the current CAG, emphasized the importance of Audit Diwas in reaffirming the institution’s commitment to good governance. He discussed initiatives like the International Centre for Audit of Local Governance in Rajkot and the CAG’s role as an external auditor for international organizations.
Technological Advancements
Murmu highlighted the use of the One IAAD One System (OIOS) for audit automation and the Centre for Data Management and Analytics. The CAG’s workforce of 41,000 was celebrated for their contributions to public auditing and accounting.
