New Delhi, August 15: Olympic bronze medallist shooter Swapnil Kusale expressed his joy after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 78th Independence Day. Kusale said that meeting the PM gave him a lot of ‘positive energy.’ The meeting took place at PM Modi’s residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, where the Indian contingent for the Paris Olympics was invited.

Kusale shared that he gifted PM Modi an idol of Lord Ganesha and felt proud when the PM congratulated him on his medal. Kusale plans to take a break before resuming his shooting practice.

Olympic weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, who finished fourth in the women’s 49 kg category, also met PM Modi. She appreciated the PM’s continuous support and motivation, even for athletes who did not win medals. Chanu plans to rest before preparing for the 2026 Asian Games.

Young swimmer Dhinidhi Desinghu, the youngest member of the contingent at 14 years old, expressed her excitement about meeting the PM. Despite her impressive performance in the women’s 200m freestyle, she did not advance to the next round but showcased her potential for the future.

Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Nikhil Khadse were also present during the meeting. Earlier, India’s Olympic medal winners were special guests at the Red Fort.

India concluded its Paris Olympics campaign with six medals, including five bronze and one silver. Highlights included Manu Bhaker’s historic two medals in a single edition and Neeraj Chopra’s silver in javelin. Wrestler Aman Sehrawat also secured a bronze medal.
