Olly Stone Replaces Injured Mark Wood for England’s Second Test Against Sri Lanka at Lord’s
London [UK], August 27: Right-arm seamer Olly Stone will replace the injured Mark Wood in the England team for the second match of the two-match series against Sri Lanka, starting on August 29 at Lord’s. England announced their playing XI for the second match, making only one change by bringing in Stone for Wood.
Despite a career plagued by injuries, Stone has played only three Tests but has been a crucial member of the England team whenever he has played. This summer, he has appeared in 28 matches for Nottinghamshire and London Spirit across formats, marking his second-most appearances in a single season after missing most of the previous season due to a hamstring injury.

Earlier on August 25, uncapped English fast bowler Josh Hull replaced Wood for the last two Test matches of the series after Wood suffered a right thigh muscle strain while bowling in the second innings of the Manchester Test.
Recap of the First Match:
In the first match, Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat first. They struggled at 113/7, but skipper Dhananjaya de Silva (74) and Milan Rathnayake (72) helped them reach 236/10. Chris Woakes (3/32) and Shoaib Bashir (3/55) were the top bowlers for England.
England, despite a poor start at 67/3, managed to score 358 runs, thanks to Joe Root (42), Harry Brook (56), and centurion Jamie Smith (111). Ashitha Fernando (4/103) and Prabhat Jayasuriya (3/85) bowled well for Sri Lanka.
In their second innings, Sri Lanka was at 95/4 but recovered with contributions from Angelo Matthews (65), Dinesh Chandimal (79), and Kamindu Mendis (113). They posted a total of 326/10, giving them a lead of 204 runs. Woakes and Matthew Potts (3/47) led England’s bowling.
In reply, England was at 70/3 but managed to secure a five-wicket win with Joe Root (62*), Harry Brook (32), and Jamie Smith (39*). England now leads the three-match series 1-0.
